Black lacquered antique papier mâché shell shaped tray/dish was originally used to collect the crumbs of Victorian high-society that were brushed off the dinner table in-between courses. Decorated all over with tiny gold stars, these highly collectable shells are beloved by the interior design set and difficult to come by. Founder of Petit Objet, Florence Wolsey, has a red one mounted above the interior doorway of her Devon cottage sitting room and is one of her most treasured antiques.
